Students Create and Launch VoteEducation.ca

In the upcoming election, do you ever wonder what political party will strive to cut down the cost of education in Canada? If so, you'll know soon enough with the launch of VoteEducation.ca.
Created by the Canadian Federation of Students, VoteEducation.ca will focus on post-secondary education and research issues. Policy analysis and information on how to vote with up-to-the-minute campaign news will all be provided by VoteEducation.ca.
Katherine Giroux-Bougard, national chairperson of the Canadian Federation of Students (CFS), believes there are many challenges that face Canada's post-secondary education system.
"The federal leaders must also table a plan to protect students and their families from tuition fee and ancillary fee increases," said Bougard.
During the lifespan of the Millennium Scholarship Foundation (1998 to 2008), tuition fee increases eroded the value of their grants by over $1,000 (33%) according to the CFS. With an average student debt that is as high as $28,000, tuition fees have doubled over the past 15 years in some provinces spurring the CFS into action.
"Tuition fee increases eat away at the value of any student grant, and we were disappointed that there was no commitment to work with the provinces to cap and reduce tuition fees," said Giroux-Bougard. "Increasing federal transfers is key to protecting families from future tuition fee increases."
Members of the Canadian Federation of Students will be traveling to public universities and colleges across Canada to try and make post-secondary education the most important issue for the upcoming federal election.
The Canadian Federation of Students is Canada's largest student organization with over 80 university and college students' associations along with a combined membership of over a half a million students.
