More Bang & Olufsen for Your Buck: BeoVision 9

Bang & Olufsen, the Danish provider of audio and video products that we all wish we could afford, has released a 50-inch plasma TV and home cinema solution, the BeoVision 9. It features revolutionary Automatic Colour Management technology that ensures an improved picture performance and delivers rich, natural colors throughout the lifespan of the plasma screens.
Its automatic Colour Management adjusts the color temperature of the plasma screen to compensate for the effects of phosphor aging, which over time, causes a shift in the white level - resulting in an increasingly yellow picture. Upon activation, a short robotic arm swings down from the upper part of the frame. A miniature camera is located at the end of the arm, which analyzes a test picture on the screen. The color temperature in the white and black areas is measured and then adjusted to ensure correct color balance. Automatic Colour Management is routinely activated after every 120 hours of use, but can also be activated manually
The BeoVision 9 adjusts brightness, color and contrast picture settings according to its placement and the lighting conditions in the room through an optical sensor on the top of the frame. It measures ambient room lighting then automatically dims or brightens itself.
The avant garde plasma incorporates a front centre audio array directly beneath the screen, a 250 GB hard disc recorder good for up to 110 hours of recording and a motorized stand.
Although available in July 2008 in silver frame/silver speaker cover and silver frame/black speaker cover combinations, I think I will wait for the additional color options for the frame, including red, blue, black and dark grey, available in late summer 2008.
